Define Intellegence - Is it needed in todays Corporate - Can you??????????????

Of course you have given me an opportunity to discuss which I have been thinking of for a long time. Talees, I wonder, most of the people succeed is by accident, accidentally finishing a graduation, accidentally finding a job climbing up the corporate ladder. Collection of information alone can't be considered as intelligence, of course information is wealth which can influence intelligence and knowledge, but never information is intelligence. I won't say intelligence is needed in current corporate environment indeed it might exist with some of the managers of the corporate set up. I feel most of the environments are corporate machinery; people are trained to chew the gum over and over without even allowed to comment on the flavor or color. One exciting experience by one of my friend with the most reputed corporate reveals how he and his colleagues were asked to shut their mouths and told to crunch the material given by the head corporate in a feedback session. Probably most of the corporate hearsay leak to the commoner is completely humbug. We people are increasingly told and made to believe corporates are highly competent, they are highly sophisticated but incompetent.”

What is the number one piece of advice you would give an employee starting their first job.

“It's nice answering this question, mostly people when get into work afresh carry on their past hearsay, get too much of their theoretical knowledge and the points they have assumed to be their capacity, but I insist them not to carry on those tips, and start as fresh as they can be as a clean slate which will contribute much better in the learn curve. Try to understand the basics of organizational ethics, professionalism and employee morale which will fine tune the career and for the betterment of the organization. Should be open to criticism in an optimistic point of view, will help an individual in a longer run.”

What are the most important things a company should do to help a new employee be successful

“Some of the companies does not have clarity in the description of job, and fail to define the KPA & KRA of the candidate. This has serious consequence in one's candidature and in career front having a direct influence in productivity. I have seen even some major companies after conducting series of interviews fail to define the role and its description, and loose the candidate at the verge of closing the position wasting the time on both the sides. I wonder how such major MNCs lack expertise in setting up a hierarchical power structure wasting of time & money. But I understand it's due to the unstable situation in business and market fluctuation, anyhow it reflects in the organization's revenue and future business. I have spoken this to some of the top HR people of the organization but I infer they too hesitant to get into clearing of the pitch".

The Strategic Recruiter

“As far the revenue comes in no one dares to experiment new strategy in any venture, new strategies evolve in times for crisis, tight corners and tough times, rarely strategies imposed when people think of doubling their revenue extending the tentacles of the business on new venues. Organizations have varied culture, atmosphere, strategies differ, I have seen some of the conventional companies without guts on experimenting imposing new trends, practicing same old strategies, safe thinking they are out of danger, and the go get attitude people prefer to stick on companies betting on the market quenching their thirst out of greediness but strategy is of planning & executing using quality time with qualified experts. Strategic efforts paves a long road ahead, entrusting a bright future for the company & the employee, strategy gains momentum when it's comfortable with the employees, but it's good when it evolves naturally rather been imposed".

How can we aseess a business analyst

“A business analyst is the one who knows completely about system, integration and a subject matter expert. He is the one who links the physical & virtual system, integrating by means of his expertise. His vast knowledge about the physical system making it work with a technical team is definitely a challenge. A good recruiter primarily should check with his knowledge of physical system and then with his technical knowledge the way you screen a SAP professional. How would you analyze a SAP professional, with his ability of functional SAP and with his experience in implementation? The same to be exercised with the Business Analysts".

How do ideas come? Where do they come from? Why are they so hard to find?

“It all comes from positive thinking, complete optimistic way of thought. If we don't allow fear & frustration to overcome our thoughts, we will be able to gain positive energy from even the worst situation we face. Positive energy, the impulse of positive psychology renders ideas from everywhere, even a single opinion; a foolish statement may give us a thought provoking idea which can be fruitful in a worst situation. While speaking to a Singaporean friend of mine he accused cynically of Indian state & the corrupt politics being not keeping the basic primary health & hygiene of general public, while I too intervened and said, we don't have a disaster management setup in place as we don't anticipate disasters like the earth tremors which happens frequently in Indonesia, we have not even learned lessons from Tsunami which took thousands of our lives and we don't have a water management setup as half the year we experience heavy floods & acute shortage of water & drought in the same geographical area of the same political structure, we did not expect a water management solution involving Pakistan, China & Bangladesh, we expect the plan should take place within the political set up of Indian states. Ideas come from everybody, everywhere where optimism reigns supreme, it nourishes when nurtured properly, it grows to the extent of changing the whole world, the transformation take place out of sheer optimism, purely optimism."

How to sell yourself ?

“It was said and believed widely, no recruiter will hire a candidate smarter than himself. Well delivering our talents and smartness at the interview is an essential need to get through the process. We need to grasp the psychology of the recruiter, one experience taught me, the recruiter himself spoke all the time raising questions & answering himself where in some cases we experience such self centered people not even knowing what they do, for this I managed to get through just imitating his attitude as if I am strictly on his side of opinion. Mostly these people infer the smartness we show in the interviews is a threat to their existence. I observed, the display of our talents should be bound to restrictions in order to win the unsecured mind of recruiters. I heard one experienced sales guy when being asked the figures of the first quarter he can accomplish, said with extra enthusiasm, he will close ten times more than the said figure, had not got through. Stick on your heels, never jump on enthusiasm, don't show it off you are curious, never display you are desperate, and always play a good boy approach, show you are always obedient to the rules of the game, and the rule of the game is "I am not a threat to anybody"

How are staffing/recruiting firms feeling the impact of the current recession and unemployment level?

“Two types of consultants are there, one perceive this economic slowdown as the worst hit on their business and try to take extreme measures to cut down the expenses, the term "over heads" & the term "cost per seat" are very frequently spelled, in some cases consultants are more scared than ever & it seems they are more pessimistic, when we intervene and say the nightmare will be over soon, and if we try to say there are alternative ways to counter down the economic crisis they fail to understand, and their repeated remarks show they are traumatized of the financial crunch. People thinking they are playing a safe game they go for home based recruiters, and freelance business development people, they fail to understand business development is not a magical phenomenon; it needs to be done properly with delivery. In HR industry sales is not a one time business, it should be backed with competent delivery, unless it is monitored by the BDM guy directly he might hard to sell his product. The misconception of the people in business clearly states their inexperience in the industry.”

Intellectual Skills !!!

“The word intellectual makes me spin my head to the past to my college days where we had discussed lot about the society, politics, economics and history of our country in Intellectual forums, I strongly believe the word "Intellectual" means to people who desire to live out a dream, coming out of the usual, conventional ways of living, trying out best ideas, implementing it to the society, politics & economics, Utopian thinker, out of box thinker, understanding the basics, never ruling out the basics, exceptionally ruling out what we consider as fundamentals, with a clear understanding of difference between the revolution & the reformation, reformation is modifying the upper & middle layer not disturbing the foundation and revolution is the complete turn up of the soil to build new structure which is quite opposite of the former. To check one for a intellect is to check whether he is a out of box thinker, who would try out for a revolutionary decision inside the company which is a designation of policy making. Wish you to recruit a policy maker!”
